HC SR501 – PIR Motion Detection Sensor :
For the safety and security of our homes or any other places, it’s crucial to install alarm systems. Motion sensors are a key part of these systems. We can also use PIR (Passive Infrared) Sensors for the same purpose. The HC SR501 is an affordable PIR sensor that can detect the presence of humans or animals by sensing the Infrared Radiation emitted from their bodies. The sensor’s sensitivity can be adjusted using a control potentiometer, and it also features an onboard signal conditioning circuitry and a Fresnel Lens to enhance its field of view. It’s commonly used in motion-activated lights in bathrooms, halls, rooms, etc., and in alarm applications.

To connect it to any microcontroller, power the device with 5V and GND pin from your controller like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, PIC, etc. Connect the output pin to any GPIO pin of your controller and proceed with your desired program. Adjust the sensitivity and time delay according to your preference using the two potentiometers provided on the module. You can also select the mode – whether you want the output to remain high or go low after a certain time when a motion is detected.
